Jennifer has found accommodation in two self catering apartments in Bugibba (North coast, near St Paul's Bay).
It's called the Winston Complex (or Winston Apartments).
L-Imrejkba Street, Qawra, Malta.

Malta obtained independence from the UK in 1964. In 1974 it became a Republic.
Malta, Gozo and Comino, the inhabited islands of the Maltese archipelago, lie at almost the exact geographical heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Sicily is some 60 miles to the North, Tripoli 220 miles to the South and Tunis 200 miles to the West. Malta is at the crossroads between continents.
A neighbour who used to live there says: "Its a tiny place, only 28 miles across. The water's lovely and clear, not many beaches. The language is difficult to speak."
Malta is not in the EC, so, when travelling, you do go through customs. Also for the same reason,
Malta is not subject to the same health and safety as the rest of Europe.
The water isn't drinkable, and is quite chloriney.
There's no fresh milk. It's imported from Italy and goes off before the best
before date.*correction. See below
They drive in the shade.
Legal drinking age is technically 16, but it's acceptable at any age.
The local beer is good.
You can only take £50 worth of currency into the country in hard cash. The rest
has to be traveller's cheques.
Thinking accommodation, it's probably best to just get a place to stay, as the
food is good and cheap and Maltese cheese cakes are brilliant for breakfast at 3
cents each.
Flight time to Malta is about 3½ hours.
1 Maltese Lira is worth 62p. (As of 17th Sept 2001)
Our local tour guide will be ptek, a.k.a. Gavin.

Rick has made enquiries about operating in Malta, and apparently there is NO reciprocal agreement at this time - which basically means
we can't do radio stuff in Malta ... at least not legally! Rick has the RSGB checking to be sure and they're going to send him the latest information.
The UK band plan for the top of 70cms is at http://www.rsgb.org/bandplans/cd1914.htm.
Rick's been busy chasing things up:
> > http://a108.adsl.nextgen.net.mt/marl/info/licence.htm
> >
> > "Malta implements CEPT Recommendation TR 61-01 and no separate license is
> > needed if you have joined CEPT. "
> >
> > get those radios ready!
>
> Hmm, well that wasn't what I was told, and having just received my
> latest licence (its just been renewed this month) it again doesn't
> mention Malta on it in the list of countries with which we have
> agreements!!
Right - more info.
Having not heard from the RSGB yet, I contacted the License Validation
People (as suggested by Dave). They weren't sure but gave me a number
to contact the Radio Communication Agency, which I did. In short, Malta
*were* on the list, but were taken off because they hadn't signed the
paperwork required. The problem is the RCA don't always get informed
when these things change, so she couldn't provide a 100% solid answer,
but said that if the WWW site says they do then she doesn't see a
problem, and she'll chase it up again at this end to see if things are
now 100% legit, and add them back on the list if they have now signed.
Consequently, I'll have a couple of UHF portables available programmed
up with a few channels around 439.5MHz-ish, plus spare ni-cads and a
charger. I'll also take copies of my licence, BR68, and the WWW page.

OK. Sorry. I apologise. Here's an email from Leo:
...I assure you you can have your daily milk baths as usual during your holiday and as for drinking I doubt if its the milk you'll be after.
Take care and see you soon.
We'll meet up with Land Rover Owners Leo (1989 110") and his friend David for several pints of best Maltese semi-skimmed.
